Tales of the Unexpected #16 featuring "The Magic Hammer" Jack Kirby's prototype for The Mighty Thor

Bullet Points:
  • Jack Kirby at his best giving the world Thor before there was Thor.
  • In this "prequel" albeit for a different publisher than the Thor we know today. Kirby introduces us to Mjolnir, Thor and Loki.
  • In The Magic Hammer, Thor wears a horned helmeted and is in fact the god Thor, the Norse deity of thunder.
Unlike the Marvel hammer, This Mjolnir can be lifted by mortals but it does have mystical power that comes to light when hit against another object.

A Side Note Rant: Thor's alter ego Donald Blake? Where is he? The fact that Blake has been totally erased from the MCU is just one of many beefs I have with modern Marvel and DC storylines as they retell comic book history for modern consumption. Non of the Jedi movies retell the Star Wars lore omitting major characters or totally rebooting Luke Skywalker's origin story.

In The Magic Hammer, Gerald Bard finds the hammer and soon discovers Mjolnir can bring rain to drought stricken towns. Old Bard becomes a legit Charles Hatfield traveling from town to town making rain for a profit. Then by chance he discovers he could do more with the hammer.
