Black Amazon of Mars is Leigh Brackett's third story to feature Eric John Stark*. A hard as nails antihero in the manner of Conan the Barbarian. Stark is black, something that was very rare in the Sci-fi Fantasy genre of the mid twentieth century. 

The female leads are a concoction of helpless, bad ass and temptress. Paving the way for heroins like Red Sonja and Xena. 

Over all, all three stories are excellently written page turners. It is just sad that Leigh Brackett does not get the accolades she deserves.
